Letter and photographs. [between 1914 and 1918]

Letter, written in France, 31 January 1917, by Sapper K.D. Starley, 5th Field Company, Australian Engineers, to his younger sister Jessie Rowley (later Mrs Morris) in Hobart. He thanks Jessie for a parcel she has sent him and describes a minor injury he had received a few days earlier. Also, two 40th Battalion photographs. Subjects are all from Tasmania. One has a brief letter on the back to Jess from Percy Lampkin, undated. Jessie Rowley worked with these men at Mather's in Hobart before the war. Percy John Lampkin (no. 871) enlisted on 20 March 1916, served as a Corporal with the 40th Battalion, and was repatriated to Australia on 13 February 1917. Other photograph depicts members of a military band with their instruments.
